Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services

San Diego, California

Shine Micro is pleased to have participated in the annual RTCM conference again this year, for the 5th year running. Almost as if to commemorate the event, Mark Johnson, President and CEO of Shine Micro, Inc., began his newly elected position on the RTCM Board of Directors.

Held at the Catamaran Resort and Spa, the suite hosted by Shine Micro featured a live installation of the SM1680 Octopus facing Mission Bay to the north east, with San Diego Bay located across the campus to the south west. Despite the ground level location, and obstruction by buildings and terrain, the SM1680 Octopus succeeded in detecting and tracking vessels in and around San Diego Bay for a radius of approximately 75 miles. The Enhanced Signal Processing features, or ESP, were also of particular interest; as well as the four color-coded spectrum analyzers available on the touch-screen display of the SM1680 Octopus.

Also featured this year was the SA161-MH: high sensitivity AIS receivers designed specifically for aviation applications.

  • High Sensitivity for Maximum Range AIS Reception
  • Low Power Consumption of Less than 2 Watts
  • Exclusive Shine Micro ESP Software Standard
  • Mil-Spec Construction
  • Type I DZUS Rail Mount

Please contact Shine Micro for more details about this upcoming product line.

The “Pinger” products received significant attention as well, as the need for an affordable solution to track small vessels becomes more and more urgent. Tracking small vessels is necessary for a number of reasons, including:

  • Safety of Navigation
  • Collision Avoidance
  • Search and Rescue
  • Environmental Protection
  • Law Enforcement
  • Homeland Security
  • And More…

Shine Micro Pinger products feature an all-in-one design that combines AIS receivers and the ability to transmit on a variety of frequency ranges; from AIS, to MURS, to custom frequencies for specific applications. The output power of the transmission can also be customized as allowable.

Shine Micro was also pleased to introduce our newest member: Mr. Andy Loretta, Director of Global Sales and Marketing.
